OUR MISSION
We are about living the Catholic faith and forming our students to live the faith. We teach our students dignity and truth. They will learn of God, to love God, to love neighbor, to love self, to develop their God-given talents, to form community and to serve others.

OUR FULL ACADEMIC PROGRAM
St. Vincent Ferrer School offers a full academic program from preschool through eighth grade The curriculum is reviewed and updated to include current teaching strategies and methods. The students are actively engaged and challenged to become critical thinkers and problem-solvers.
St. Vincent Ferrer students score above the national norm on the Terra Nova Standardized Tests, thus reflecting our academic excellence. 100% of the most recent classes were placed at the high school of their choice.
In recent years SVF graduates have been at the forefront of the competition, receiving scholarships at Fenwick, Trinity, St.Patrick, St. Ignatius and other area high schools.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
St. Vincent Ferrer provides for social development through "Faith Partners" (a multigrade faith, social enrichment program), special projects, and celebrations. Leadership skills are developed through a student council from third through eighth grade.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
St. Vincent Ferrer has adopted a learning program which incorporates the following objectives:
• To encourage the school community to use a global view,
• To improve religious instruction and faith experiences which foster a knowledge and appreciation of Roman Catholic beliefs and Dominican tradition which will guide students in making moral choices,
• To provide opportunities which help students master the basic skills of reading, communication, computation, and problem-solving, while progressing in diversified learning modes,
• To teach students to recognize and to use wisely the benefits of the ever expanding technological world,
• To foster an atmosphere where children learn how to study, how to think for themselves, and how to make individual decisions,
• To monitor continuous self-assessment of each child, encouraging him/her to become a self-initiated learner,
• To integrate learning experiences from all subject areas in order to provide a unified program of studies,

HISTORY
In 1922 the Archbishop of Chicago gave permission to the Dominican Order to establish a parish named in honor of St. Vincent Ferrer, the Dominican known as the "Patron of Builders."
Father William McIntyre, O.P., then Parish Pastor, deemed it necessary to educate the children of the parish in a Catholic environment and opened the school in 1940 with Sister Ramona McAllister, O.P serving as the first principal and teaching positions staffed by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa.
Ms. Frances Mazzulla, B.A., M.Ed., a doctoral candidate at Chicago's Loyola University, was appointed principal of St. Vincent Ferrer School in 2002. Ms. Mazzulla has degrees in School Administration and Supervision and English Literature.
In 2009 Fr. Herb Hayek, O.P. was appointed as Pastor of the Parish.
