Scoop Into the School Year: Remembering Our Ice Cream Social Kickoff (2024)

This post is part of our ‘A Year to Remember’ series—celebrating the joy, growth, and sense of community that shaped our school year.

There’s something special about the first day back—fresh school supplies, eager smiles, and the joyful buzz of a new beginning. At St. Vincent Ferrer, we kicked off the year with a beloved tradition, hosted by our 8th grade class, that brought our whole community together: our annual Ice Cream Social + Backpack Blessing!

Families arrived to drop off school supplies, meet teachers, and reconnect with friends old and new. Classrooms came alive with chatter and cheerful anticipation as students explored their new spaces, chatted with teachers, and got a sneak peek at the year ahead.

But before settling into routines, we paused for something truly meaningful—our Backpack Blessing at church, where we lifted up our students, teachers, and school community in prayer. It was a beautiful reminder that every journey we take this year begins with faith.

And then... came the ice cream! 🍨 With sweet treats in hand, kids gathered on the lawn, laughing and catching up, while parents chatted and celebrated the fresh start. There were sprinkles, sticky smiles, and lots of joy—just the way we like it.

Events like this are more than just fun—they’re foundational. They set the tone for a year rooted in connection, community, and care. As we look back, we’re so grateful for the sweet start and even sweeter school family that surrounds us.

Here’s to a memorable year of learning, growing, and celebrating together—one scoop at a time.
