Board of Specified Jurisdiction

The Board of Specified Jurisdiction (or BSJ) was created to assist the school community in the governance of specified areas, consistent with the policies, procedures, guidelines, regulations, and best practises promulgated by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools.
The BSJ is empowered to cooperate and collaborate with the Principal and the Pastor in the work of administering and leading the school. The following are the charges of the BSJ:
- Ministry Effectiveness (Mission/Vision/Faith-based Core Values)
- Fiscal Management (Finance and Facilities)
- Institutional Advancement (Communication, Development, Marketing, Enrollment/Recruitment and Retention)
- Planning
- Member Development
It is recommended that a BSJ be composed of 11 to 21 members. An individual is selected based upon certain skill sets and expertise in one or more of the above mentioned areas. At least 80% of the Board members must be Catholic. Member group includes:
- Parishioners
- Alumni/ae and parents of alumni/ae
- Leaders within the neighborhood, business, and professional communities
- Parents of current students (up to 25%)
Members commit to attend Board meetings, actively participate and work on one of the committees: Executive, Ministry/Mission, Member Development, Policy and Planning, Fiscal Management, and Institutional Advancement. Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month.
