Religion – This Is Our Faith

The church is the focus of the third grade religion curriculum

Ø To learn the marks of the church – one holy, catholic and apostolic

Ø To know God more fully in the three persons of the Trinity

Ø To learn the meaning of the Apostles Creed and what Catholics believe

Ø To understand and appreciate that prayer brings us closer to God

Ø To review the seven sacraments

Ø To learn the Ten Commandments and how they help us to make good decisions

Phonics is taught as part of reading program

Ø Use of synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, homophones, etc.

Ø Identify and use of the 10 Rules of Syllabication

Comprehension and literacy skills are developed through Guided Reading with an emphasis on fluency of reading

Ø Critical thinking skills are also emphasized

Skills are practiced through workbook, creative written assignments and projects
